June 29, 2025 Doctoral student from the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the Nobel Laureate Meeting in Lindau
Finn Sebastian represents the department of chemistry
Two doctoral students from Heidelberg University have the opportunity to exchange ideas with outstanding scientists. They are taking part in the 74th Nobel Laureate Meeting with a focus on chemistry, which will take place in Lindau from June 29 to July 4, 2025. Finn Sebastian (Institute of Physical Chemistry) and Mona Hämmerle (Institute for Molecular Systems Engineering and Advanced Materials) are among the young researchers who have prevailed in a multi-stage application and selection process due to their outstanding academic achievements. The event at Lake Constance with more than 30 laureates - including Prof. Dr. Stefan Hell, Heidelberg physicist and winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry - offers a multi-day program with lectures and panel discussions as well as the opportunity for personal encounters and networking.
Finn Sebastian is a member of Prof. Dr. Jana Zaumseil's research group at the Institute of Physical Chemistry at Heidelberg University. As part of a project funded by the European Research Council, he is researching carbon-based, semiconducting nanomaterials. These are characterized by their ability to emit light in the near-infrared range, which enables applications in biological imaging and for more secure technologies in the telecommunications sector. The interdisciplinary work in the research field between chemistry, physics and materials science aims to characterize the optical properties of these nanomaterials more precisely using new measurement methods and to improve them through targeted synthesis approaches.
