Tanaka Group
Welcome to the website of the Tanaka research group Heidelberg, the professorship for Physical Chemistry of Biosystems.
We are operating at the interface of physics, chemistry, and biology, focusing on the fundamental principles governing cells, membranes, and biointerfaces. Combining tailor-made model systems, such as supported lipid membranes, with advanced quantitative techniques including live-cell imaging, X-ray and neutron scattering, we seek to uncover how physical forces and molecular interactions shape cellular behavior and tissue function. With strong interdisciplinary and international collaborations, particularly between Germany and Japan, we aim to bridge molecular-scale insights and biomedical applications, contributing to emerging fields like the physics of cells and tissues and the design of functional biomaterials.
