MCTDHB FAQ

  • Question: What is MCTDHB?
    Answer:

MCTDHB an extremely efficient algorithm to solve the time-dependent many-body Schrödinger equation for interacting ultracold bosons.
  • Question: Can I use MCTDHB?
    Answer:

Yes, you can. There are two options. First, you can use a FREE cross-platform (Win/Mac/Linux) JavaFX-based front-end called MCTDHB-Lab, which works out-of-the-box, i.e., it does not require recompilation: click here to learn more, or visit the MCTDHB-Lab Web-portal: www.qdlab.org . Second option is to use an open source version available for download here. If you would like to use the full package (parallelized, arbitrary orbital number, etc), please feel free to contact us.
  • Question: Is MCTDHB an algorithm to solve the Gross-Pitaevskii equation?
    Answer:

No, it's more than that. Gross-Pitaevskii is a mean field equation, but MCTDHB is a many-body method. MCTDHB is capable of describing many-body correlations, whereas Gross-Pitaevskii isn't. However, MCTDHB contains Gross-Pitaevskii as the simplest case.
  • Question: What makes MCTDHB so efficient?
    Answer:

Everything constituting the ansatz for the many-body wavefunction is determined by the principle of least action - even the basis set. This makes the solution variationally optimal at all times.
  • Question: Where can I read more about MCTDHB?
    Answer:

The method is explained in this paper. Many other publications are listed here.
